Who We Are

Aimed at helping children grow up with confidence, composure and dignity, Adream Foundation focuses on Competency-based Education and promotes Equity in Education. In practice, we systematically provide schools with the “Adream Center” system, which aggregates educational products and services for philanthropic purposes, so that children, whether in remote villages or cities, can explore the much wider world and richer life possibilities based on a true knowledge of the self unraveled.
about_1
In this chaotic and restless world
we choose to be idealists
Yet, in the idealistic world of public service
we are dedicated realists
For we know ideals
must endure fire and frost
For love is priceless, for love has costs
With you by our side
We are never alone

Our Vision

The essence of education is to help children find their passion!

As people’s basic physical needs are met (food, clothing, etc.), differential access to a quality education becomes the next significant element of social inequality. The inequitable distribution of education funding in China has resulted in differential access to socioeconomic opportunities across different sections of the population. And even as dilapidated classrooms and worn-out equipment are replaced through government-funded renovations (or wholesale reconstruction), we still witness an education system that stifles children’s love of learning. Overall, we observe that the current education system in impoverished areas is dominated by narrow viewpoints, a problem exacerbated by a subpar social environment. We hope to use our experience in business management to weave a dream: developing innovative and interesting teaching methods and interactive class experiences so that children in both urban and rural areas can truly enjoy the learning process.

Our Mission

To help our children grow up with confidence, poise and dignity!

Adream endeavors to address inequalities in China’s education sector through its projects and services, collectively known as the “Adream Center” network. Our network serves underprivileged children in rural areas and urban inner-cities, and seeks to cultivate their sense of self-awareness and confidence, so that they can forge and embrace a future of possibilities. We believe that philanthropy should empower beneficiaries with the ability to forge their own opportunities rather than just providing them with physical goods. In other words, we aim to teach a man to fish rather than give him one.

Our Solutions

We provide kids with a competency-based education system integrated with hardware and software. It includes: “Adream Curriculum”, which integrates into local curriculums and serves as our core educational content; “Adream Centers”, special classrooms designed to facilitate children’s education; “Adream Guides”, a training program to help teachers develop their skills; and “Adream Box”, an online support platform for teachers.

Goals

Adream makes charitable services more efficient!

We hope to disseminate our educational philosophy through our highly replicable projects and services. For this aim, we adopt proven business and financial management technologies and tools to improve the efficiency of our foundation. We strive to establish an operating model that is easy for all parties to navigate, while being capable of addressing complex issues. We welcome internal and external criticism and feedback.
We document all project results and the feedback we receive from teachers, schools, donors, experts, and volunteers, and make adjustments to our projects, services, and internal management procedures accordingly. We believe this process of introspection and self-reform will encourage China’s charitable industry to become more and more professional and accountable – after all, a 1% increase in efficiency on the systemic level is inherently more beneficial than a 1% increase on the individual level.
By 2018, we expect to have 3319 Adream Centers serving 3.6 million children, or 2% of the student population in grades 1-9 in China. This figure is even higher (5-7% of students) in China’s Midwest regions, where most of our projects and services are concentrated. We hope that our work on the local and regional levels will raise public awareness of our projects and services, and eventually pave the way for large-scale reforms in China’s education system.

Guiding Principles

Helping people help themselves

Charity is neither generosity nor pity for the weak; it should help the underprivileged transcend environmental and social constraints, empowering them to determine their own futures. Our selection process of beneficiary schools adhere to this principle: we look at motivated groups and individuals who are genuinely motivated in transforming their schools into centers of empowerment, and who are determined to sustain social change in their area.

Introducing business management tools to charities

We integrate specialized business and financial management processes/models to our management of charitable organizations, to ensure that our work is conducted in an effective and efficient manner. Processes we use include the selection and evaluation of potential projects, monitoring and assessment of investments, supervision and management of our programs and services, diversified fundraising channels, and risk management of donations.

Pursuit of Transparency

Since 2009, Adream has published its annual audit reports and finances in accordance to the standards required of listed companies. We disclose all this information to the public at our annual press conferences in Beijing, Shanghai, and Shenzhen, as well as on our website. We also assess the foundation’s efficiency, accountability, and transparency indices using criteria set by the Charity Navigator System Foundation, the largest independent charity assessment agency in the world.

Healthy and Happy Volunteers

In order for a charity to work sustainably and effectively, its participants need to be healthy and financially self-sufficient. We advocate “pressure-free” charity work to both donors and volunteers, letting them participate in public service without having to sacrifice or change their lifestyles. We believe that lowered participation costs in volunteer work will encourage more people to volunteer, thus creating a stable pool of volunteers to sustain the charitable service sector.
